2011 Phase 111 BRB -1
(Photographs 1 through 30)
COVER
(Table A -1)
The rank of dominant Iifeform in the BRB -1 in 2011 was split almost equally amongst introduced perennial
forbs and introduced perennial cool season grasses with 16.9 and 16.4 percent all -hit vegetation cover
respectively. Native perennial cool season grasses and native perennial forbs followed close behind with
13.5 and 5.7 percent all -hit vegetation cover. Introduced perennial forb cover was composed mostly of
alfalfa (Medicago sativa). Introduced perennial cool season grass cover was predominantly composed of
fescue (Festuca ovina) and intermediate wheatgrass (Thinopyrum intermedium). Also observed in the area
were the noxious weeds musk thistle (Carduus nutans ssp. macrolepis), hound's tongue (Cynoglossum
officinale), whitetop (Cardaria draba), and Canada thistle (Breea arvense).
Total average vegetation cover for first -hits was 57.6 percent. Allowable all -hit herbaceous cover was 57.7
percent. Cover by standing dead, litter, bare soil and rock averaged 0.7, 21.6, 18.9 and 1.2 percent,
respectively (first hits). Average species density was 33.1 species per 100 sq. m.
PRODUCTION
(Table A -2)
Total herbaceous production in the BRB -1 in 2011 was 1,882.5 pounds per acre, all of which was allowable
herbaceous production. Of this, 908.2 pounds were native perennial cool season grasses, 567.4 were
introduced perennial forbs, and 230.2 were introduced perennial cool season grasses. Four other lifeforms
were present, each less than 100 pounds per acre.
WOODY PLANT DENSITY
'Background" Density
(Table A -3)
Total average "Background" woody plant density in the BRB -1 in 2011 was 246.9 stems per acre. Big
sagebrush (Seriphidium tridentatum) was the densest at 129.5 stems per acre followed by mountain
14
