Hernandez, Alysha
From: Burgmaier, Susan
Sent: Friday, March 09, 2012 12:50 PM
To: Ebert, Jared
Cc: DRMS - Coal - Admin; Brown, Sandy
Subject: RE: HG Loadout; C- 1992 -081 TR -08
Jared — I have completed my adequacy review of TR -08 for the H -G Loadout, and would recommend approval of the
revision as proposed.
The operator has provided a revised design for Ditch 3, since reclamation activities and railroad track removal have
negated the need for Culvert 18. The culvert will be replaced by a continuation of Ditch 3. The design information
provided for Ditch 3 included revised watershed information corresponding to the current conditions resulting from
recent reclamation activity. The information provided for the ditch adequately demonstrated that runoff from the 10
year — 24 hour event will be safely conveyed. The operator has proposed that vegetation will ensure channel stability,
so it would probably be a good idea to verify that the ditch is vegetated in a reasonable amount of time. If vegetation is
not established and there are signs of erosion, it might be necessary to revise the design to a riprapped channel.
The operator noted that Culvert 18 might be reinstalled if the railroad tracks were replaced at some later date, but did
not review design information for the culvert based on the current reclamation configuration and predicted runoff. I
reviewed the design information for the culvert based on the post - reclamation runoff volume, and determined that the
existing design for a 24" culvert remains adequate. Should the culvert be reinstalled, the minimum diameter must be
24 ".
Please let me know if you have questions or need additional information.
Susan L.
