A response to the adequacy issues was received from Greg Lewicki and Associates,
LLC, on behalf of Western Fuels (WFC) on October 14, 2011. Revised pages 30 and 38 of
permit Section 2.05.4(2)(e) were submitted. The Division has completed its review of these
pages; please find our comments itemized below. Numbering is consistent with that used in
PAR No. 1.
Page 30 addresses "Reference Area Management." The fourth and fifth paragraphs have
been combined and revised for MR -81.
a) An introductory sentence would be helpful to explain that the IP reference area will be
either grazed or hayed to simulate the management on the reclaimed irrigated pasture
land.
The paragraph was revised to include an introductory sentence, as requested. Item
resolved.
b) Please add to the end of the "Plans for livestock grazing and haying" discussion that
winter grazing by cattle, deer and elk is common practice and may occur on all areas,
with supplemental hay provided when . (Please explain when the supplemental
hay is provided.) Domestic grazing animals will be removed from the fields prior to
irrigation and spring germination of planted species. Generally, animals will be
removed no later than March 30 of each year.
The livestock grazing and haying discussion on page 30 has been modified, as
requested. Item resolved.
Office of Office of
Mined Land Reclamation Denver • Grand Junction • Durango Active and Inactive Mines
