REVEGETATION
• Seeding and Shrub Planting
No new seeding was conducted at Seneca II. No shrubs or trees were planted at Seneca II Mine
in 2011.
• Weed Control
Survey for noxious weeds was carried out on the Seneca II Mine permit area in 2011. Canada
thistle was the primary target species, with lesser activity directed towards areas of hounds
tongue and whitetop. The weed control areas will continue to be monitored in 2012 for
effectiveness and necessary retreatment.
See the attached weed control daily log spreadsheet for more detailed description of the 2011
herbicide application (actual log is on file at the mine site) and the 2011 Weed Control Areas
map for locations of spraying areas.
• Revegetation Monitoring
Revegetation monitoring of permanently revegetated areas was conducted during the summer of
2011 by ESCO Associates, Inc. The 2011 Annual Revegetation Monitoring report will be
submitted as a separate document.
• Grazing
Cattle (160 long yearlings) were moved on to the Seneca II reclaimed area August 15 2011. All
cattle were moved off the Seneca II Mine area September 11 th , 2011. See attached 2011 Grazing
Plan Map for pasture locations.
This grazing scheme resulted in a total of 128 AUM's for 2011.
Assumptions: 1 long yearling = 0.8 AUM requiring 648 pounds offorage per month. (One
AUM requires 810 pounds offorage).
The AUM usage is calculated using the following assumptions:
Assumptions:
Average production = 1,172 lbs. /acre (see 2007 and 2008 Revegetation Monitoring Report)
Total reclaimed area = 271 acres (included Pre -Law area)
One AUM requires 810 lbs. offorage
1,172 lbs /acre (x) 271 acres = 317,612 lbs. of total forage produced
810 lbs. of forage (x) 128 AUM's = 103,680 lbs. of forage required;
Therefore,
103,680 (/) 317,612 (x) 100 = 32.6% utilization of the total Seneca II reclaimed area
2
