• Revegetation Monitoring
Revegetation monitoring of permanently revegetated areas was conducted during the summer of
2011 by ESCO Associates, Inc. The 2011 Annual Revegetation Monitoring report will be
submitted as a separate document.
• Grazing
Cattle (320 long yearlings) were moved on to the PSCM reclaimed area August 15 2011 and
moved off by September 11 2010. See attached 2011 Grazing Plan Map for pasture locations.
This grazing scheme resulted in a total of 256 AUM's for 2011.
Assumptions: 1 long yearling = 0.8 AUM, requiring 648 pounds offorage per month. (One
AUM requires 810 pounds offorage).
The AUM usage is calculated using the following assumptions:
Assumptions:
Average production = 1,172 lbs. /acre (see 2007 and 2008 Revegetation Monitoring Report)
Total reclaimed area = 1,300.4 acres (included Pre -Law area)
One AUM requires 810 lbs. offorage
1,172 lbs /acre (x) 1300.4 acres = 1,524,069 lbs. of total forage produced
810 lbs. of forage (x) 256 AUM's = 207,360 lbs. of forage required;
Therefore,
207,360 (/) 1,524,069 (x) 100 = 14% utilization of the PSCM grazed reclaim area.
SEDIMENTATION POND SURVEYS
PSCM is required by Permit to monitor sedimentation ponds for sediment storage capacities on
varying schedules. Capacity surveys at Ponds 002 and 003 are required every 5 years and Ponds
004 every 2 years. This schedule provides a sediment yield history and gives advance warning
to operations personnel when sediment clean -out work is required. Ponds 002 and 003were
required to be surveyed in 2011, but due to early icing conditions the ponds were not surveyed.
Beginning in 2012, Ponds 002 and 003 will be surveyed on an annual basis while Pond 004 will
be surveyed every two years.
In accordance with Rule 4.05.6(11)(c), SCC visually inspects each pond a minimum of quarterly
each year. During these inspections, any drastic change in sedimentation storage or sudden
increase in a sediment delta at the inlet to the pond would be detected which could require
mitigation.
The following table lists the latest surveyed capacities of PSCM sediment ponds:
2011 ARR 5
