Allowable all -hit herbaceous <br />vegetation cover was also 91.3 percent. Cover by standing dead, litter, bare soil and rock <br />averaged 0.4, 5.2, 3.1 and 0.0 percent, respectively (first hit). Average species density was 40.1 <br />species per 100 sq m. <br />Production <br />(Table A -5) <br />Total herbaceous production in 2011 was 1,391.8 pounds per acre. Of this, 1,183.0 pounds were <br />native perennial forbs and 207.0 were native perennial cool season grasses. Three other <br />lifeforms were present at less than 2 pounds per acre. <br />MOUNTAIN BRUSH EXTENDED REFERENCE AREA <br />(Photographs 12 -15) <br />Cover <br />(Table A -6) <br />Native shrubs were the predominant lifeform observed in the Mountain Brush Reference Area, <br />contributing 74.1 percent all -hit vegetation cover. Of this, Gambel's oak (Quercus gambelii) <br />contributed 37.1 percent, mountain snowberry contributed 22.6 percent, and Saskatoon <br />serviceberry and chokecherry (Padus virginiana ssp. melanocarpa) each contributed 6.7 percent. <br />Native perennial forbs and native perennial cool season grasses made strong contributions to all - <br />hit cover, with 21.4 and 20.3 percent, respectively. Also observed in the area was the noxious <br />weed hound's tongue. <br />Total average vegetation cover for first hits was 79.4 percent. Allowable all -hit herbaceous <br />vegetation cover was 43.9 percent. Cover by standing dead, litter, bare soil and rock averaged <br />1.3, 12.7, 6.0 and 0.6 percent, respectively (first hit).
