(WRCC) for the nearby town of Hayden (Station 053867). Since the long -term average for the
Seneca IIW mine exists for only 26 years, the long -term average monthly precipitation data from
Hayden (Station 053867) was used as an appropriate base for comparison. Temperature data
from the Hayden station was used as well.
RESULTS
Sample data from the 2011 interim revegetation monitoring studies are presented in Tables A -1
through 11. Sampling data are summarized in appendix B. Data on cover, production, and
woody plant density are in Table B -1. Data on species density by lifeform are tabulated for
sampled areas in Table B -2. Data on relative cover by lifeform are compiled in Table B -3.
Statistical adequacy of sampling is reviewed in Table B -4. The list of plant species observed
during these studies (reclaimed and reference areas) is included as Table C -1. Seed mixes used
in the reclamation areas are included for reference in Appendix D. Photographs of representative
locations within the reclaimed and reference areas sampled in 2011 are included in Appendix E.
Graphs of vegetation and climate data are presented in Figures B1 through 10 of this report.
In the cover descriptions below, species listed as "also present" were not "hit" during point -
intercept sampling but were present within one meter of either side of the 50 m sample transect
line. Unless otherwise stated, all cover values are for absolute all -hit data only. Percentages are
rounded to facilitate discussion of the results.
In the production tables, data are expressed as oven -dry pounds per acre (lbs/acre). These
figures were extrapolated from the average weights for the 0.5 square meter samples. For woody
plant density, data collected in each 100 square meter plot were extrapolated to estimate the
number of individuals expected per acre.
Interim Monitoring
2007 RECLAIMED AREA
(Photographs 1 -7)
Cover
(Table A -1)
Introduced annual and biennial forbs were the predominant lifeform observed in the 2007
Reclaimed Area, contributing 19.3 percent all -hit cover. Of this, yellow sweet clover (Melilotus
officinalis) and prickly lettuce (Lactuca serriola) contributed 10.7 and 4.3 percent all -hit cover,
respectively. Native perennial cool season grasses were the second most encountered lifeform
with 17.1 percent all -hit cover. Within this group, western wheatgrass (Pascopyrum smithir) and
6
