Talvitie, Environmental Protection Specialist <br />Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety <br />1313 Sherman Street, Room 215 <br />Denver, CO 80203 <br />Re: King Coal Mine (Permit No. C- 1981 -035) <br />Permit Renewal Application No. 6 (RN -6) <br />Dear Ms. Talvitie, <br />The Division of Water Resources (DWR) has reviewed the above - referenced King Coal Mine permit <br />renewal application received by the Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety (DRMS) on February 28, <br />2012. The operator, GCC Energy, LLC, is requesting renewal of the mining and reclamation permit. King <br />Coal Mine is an underground coal mining operation located approximately 7 miles southwest of <br />Hesperus, CO. <br />No additional information was provided in the application materials concerning the estimated water <br />demand and proposed water supply for operations at the mine. According to the local Water <br />Commissioner, Matthew Schmitt, there are currently no water administration issues at the mine; <br />therefore, this agency has no comments regarding RN -6. <br />Thank you for the opportunity to comment on this application.
