OBSERVATIONS <br />PERMIT #: M -1998 -011 <br />INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: SJR <br />INSPECTION DATE: March 19, 2012 <br />This was a monitoring inspection of the Unwin Pit; DRMS File No. M- 1998 -011 operated by Las Animas County. <br />This site is located approximately 10 miles southeast of Kim, Colorado in Las Animas County. 1, Stephanie <br />Reigh of the Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety conducted the inspection. Mr. Howard <br />Sumpter accompanied me on the Inspection. <br />This is a 9.9 acre 110c mining operation. The appropriate mine entrance sign was posted at the entrance of <br />the mine site and the boundary was marked with metal posts. Mr. Sumpter and I walked the perimeter of the <br />site and the acreage was measured at 9.67 acres. <br />Excavation has taken place in the east and western ends of the pit. In the middle of the permit area, it is <br />undisturbed. There is no equipment on site. On the western portion of the pit it has been regarded and <br />reseeded at a 3:1 slope or flatter. There are no weeds present at the site. Topsoil has been placed in piles <br />around the perimeter of the site. Several material stockpiles are located throughout the permit area. <br />All other activities and completed work at the time of inspection appeared to follow the guidelines and <br />regulations set forth by the state and in the mining and reclamation plans for the pit. <br />Page 2 of 4 <br />
