OBSERVATIONS
PERMIT #: M -1999 -060
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: SJR
INSPECTION DATE: March 19, 2012
This was a monitoring inspection of the Yocam Pit; DRMS File No. M- 1999 -060 operated by Las Animas
County. This site is located in Southeast Las Animas County. I, Stephanie Reigh of the Colorado Division of
Reclamation, Mining and Safety (Division) conducted the inspection. Mr. Howard Sumpter of Las Animas
County accompanied me on the inspection.
This is a small 9.9 acre 110c mining operation. The mine entrance sign was posted and the boundaries were
marked. The Operator has created a small pit excavation near the center of the permit area. Several piles of
mined material were located east of the excavated area. Overall, mining appears to have begun in the
northeastern portion of the site and is advancing southwest. Topsoil is stockpiled on the northeast corner of
the permit boundary. Pit slopes were at a 3:1 slope or gentler.
The topsoil stock pile appears to be stable and vegetated in addition to some annual weeds. There was no
equipment at the site. Kit Carson County is in compliance with the mining plan as well.
All other activities and completed work at the time of inspection appeared to follow the guidelines and
regulations set forth by the state and in the mining and reclamation plans for the pit.
