2.
What are the advantages of having this plant? The employment of
100 people and a few tax dollars? Is that worth the inevitable increase in
asthma and respiratory illness that the area will certainly experience? Is
that worth the additional safety and stress hazards caused by increased
truck traffic? Is that worth the destruction of fragile, natural
ecosystems that now exist in the country south of Pueblo?
Many of us from out -of -state have purchased land south of Pueblo
because we fell in love with the clean air, the pristine beauty of the land,
and the entire area. We are eager to become citizens of Pueblo County, not
to exploit it as a cement company will, but to love it and care for it. We
too pay taxes.
If the plant is allowed, I am certain that thousands of people like us
will be forced to reconsider their decision to move to this area of
Colorado. My husband and I thank you sincerely for doing all you can to
oppose the establishment of the Rio Grande Portland Cement Company
south of Pueblo.
Yours truly,
Elsa and William lenatsch
