C-2010-089
New Horizon North Mine
PARNos. 1- 1A -1B, 2-2A-2B, 3
revise the text here to reflect the same name. As with the preceding paragraphs, please
revise the relative proportions as appropriate. Itent resolved in Dee-2011 response.
14. The "Pastureland" land use category is described beginning on the bottom of page 5 of
Section 2.04.3 of the PAP. As with comments to the Grazingland section, above, the net
acreage of Pastureland in the text is not consistent with that shown on Map 2.04.3-1. The
text gives 138.23 acres for Pastureland, whereas the map gives 208.25 acres. Assuming that
the map acreage is correct, and that the area described in the text as "GL-REC" should
actually be "PL-REC", as shown on the map, the GL-REC paragraph will be moved to this
section, and the proportional acreages for each subcategory of Pastureland will need to be
recalculated.
Itttit rev ohyedinDee-2(1fire.v])oizse.
15. Table 2.04.3-1 on page 8 of Section 2.04.3 provides information on NRCS Land Capability
and Yields per Acre for various soil map units and crops. Please insert a column to the right
of the Soils Map Unit column which gives the name (Aquolls, Nyswonger, and Progresso)
for each of the three units listed. Itent resolved in Dec-2011 response.
16. In Table 2.04.3-1, a Grass Hay yield of 4.5 tons/acre is given for map units 10 and 81 & 82.
The footnote indicates that this is for non-irrigated conditions, which seems unlikely. Please
review the available NRCS information, to verify this value, or revise as appropriate. The
location of the * in the table, ijws corrected` Item resolved in Dec-2011 response.
17. Table 2.04.3-3, Montrose County Assessor's Abstract Codes, is split between two pages (10
and 11) in the PAP, Please ensure that the entire table appears on one page, or repeat the
column headings on the second page. Itent resolved at Dec-2011 response.
18. In the first paragraph of the Previously Mined Lands subsection of Section 2.04.3 (pages 11
and 12), the Navajo Mine is described gas having been located to the east of County Road
27.00. It seems that the correct direction for the Navajo would be west, rather than east of
the county road. Please review, and revise if appropriate. In the last paragraph on Page 12 of Section 2.04.3, the term GL-REC is used; as discussed in
previous items, the term PL-REC is likely intended. Please review and revise as
appropriate. The Colorado Historical Society has reviewed the information provided with New Horizon
North application. In a letter received by the Division on November 19, 2010 (attached), the
State Historic Preservation Officer concludes that a finding of no historic properties
affected is appropriate for the proposed activities. However, the letter also states, ",Mould
unidentified archaeological resources be discovered in the course of the project, work must
be interrupted until the resources have been evaluated, in terms of the National register of
Historic Places eligibility criteria (36 (TR 60.4) in consultation with our office:" Please
include this commitment in the narrative of this section.
