Table 2. Timeline for Implementing Maintenance
Condition
Timeframe for Implementation
Maintenance of temporary dike
and ditch (DD)
Redefine channel back to its original shape as
necessary. Remove any sediment accumulations to
maintain its carrying capacity. Repair any scour,
erosion, washouts or breaches along the berm.
Maintenance of temporary berm
Repair any washouts or breaches along the berm.
Maintenance of temporary slope
drain (TSD)
Remove any sediment accumulations at the inlet.
Repair any erosion at the outlet.
Maintenance of inlet protection
(IP): straw bal (IP -StB) or silt
fence (IP -SF)
Sediment should be removed when sediment
accumulation reaches one -half the height of the
straw bale or silt fence.
Maintenance of inlet protection-
gravel bag (IP -GB)
Sediment should be removed when it has
accumulated to one half of the original height of the
protection structure.
Gravel bags that have been damaged by vehicular
traffic should be repaired or if necessary replaced
If there are gaps between bags, the gravel bags
must be reset so that each bag tightly abuts the
adjacent ones. Bags on either end of the inlet
protection must also have tight contact with the
curb.
Maintenance of inlet protection —
filter fabric (IP -FF)
Sediment deposits will be removed and the filter
fabric restored to its original dimensions when the
sediment has accumulated between 1/3 and 1/2 of
the available storage located between the fabric
and the bottom of the grate. Care shall be taken to
ensure trapped sediment does not fall into the inlet.
Any material falling into the inlet shall be removed.
Filter fabric shall be inspected for holes or tears and
if necessary replaced.
Maintenance of inlet protection-
sediment control log (IP -SCL)
Sediment should be removed when sediment
accumulation reaches one -half the height of the
sediment control log. Move sediment to a location
where it cannot wash back into any ditches,
drainages, or other receiving waters. Retrench any
log that has been undercut. Fill in and tamp down
any gullies that have formed.
Animas Glacier SWMP February 2012
p. 21
