The General Manager and the Environmental Resources Department are authorized <br />to make the necessary regulatory notifications. <br />• In the case of an injury to a person, make sure that the Safety Department is notified. If qualified, <br />and if necessary, administer first aid and medical treatment. <br />• Attempt to stop or contain the flow of material only if there is no danger of combustion. If there is <br />a danger of combustion, immediately clear the area. In attempting to stop or contain ammonium <br />nitrate, a dust respirator should be worn. <br />• Begin clean -up activities promptly. Fuels should be carefully pumped back into properly vented <br />storage containers. Contaminated material should be collected in clean 55- gallon drums and <br />disposed of in a manner and at a location specifically approved for that material by the <br />Environmental Resources Department. <br />• Complete an Internal Spill Report form (Appendix A) and turn in to supervisor as soon as possible <br />but in no case later than end of the shift. <br />• Conduct remedial and clean -up activities as required. <br />5.2.2 Petroleum -Based Oils and Antifreeze <br />IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT INVOLVING A SPILL OR LEAK, FOLLOW THESE STEPS: <br />• Attempt to stop or contain the flow of material. <br />• Notify immediate supervisor by radio. Supervisors are to immediately notify the Environmental <br />Resources Department (phone numbers are listed in section 6). The Environmental Resources <br />Department will make the necessary external notifications or will authorize them to be made by <br />others. <br />• In the case of an injury to a person, ensure that the Safety Department is notified. If qualified, <br />and if necessary, administer first aid and medical treatment. <br />• Begin clean -up activities promptly. Spilled material should be pumped into approved containers. <br />If pumping is not possible, sand, dirt, or absorbent material should be placed to absorb the oil or <br />coolant. Once absorption is complete, contaminated material should be collected in barrels and <br />disposed of in a manner and at a location specifically approved by the Environment Resources <br />Department for this material. <br />• Complete an Internal Spill Report form (Appendix A) and turn in to supervisor as soon as possible <br />but in no case later than end of the shift. <br />5.2.3 Cyanide Solutions, Sodium Hydroxide, and Hydrochloric Acid <br />IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT INVOLVING A SPILL OR LEAK, FOLLOW THESE STEPS: <br />(If you are not familiar with the chemicals and the appropriate responses do not attempt to respond <br />but call immediately for help). <br />• Determ ine the nature and extent of the problem. DO NOT take any action until the proper course <br />of action can be determined based on the nature and extent of the accident, spill, or leak. <br />• Notify immediate supervisor by radio. Supervisors are to notify immediately the Safety <br />Department and the Environmental Resources Department (phone numbers are listed in section <br />6.
