Total differential pressure will be measured by a transducer located
within the test section, and is expected to be less than 150 psi.
In low - permeability sections (hydraulic conductivity 5 0.001 ft/day), an alternate testing approach
will be used to compensate for flows that are below the range of a one -inch flow meter (typically
about 0.5 gpm). The low - permeability approach is to add a measured volume of water to the top of
the standpipe by hand. The time required for the section to take the measured volume is recorded
and the data are used to calculate hydraulic conductivity. The standpipe used for the packer tests
will be in good shape and free of defects that may cause leakage at the connections. Threads will
be sealed with environmental -grade pipe dope or Teflon tape if required.
4.1 Packer Equipment Specification
Packer inflation pressures are governed by the submergence depth of the test interval, stretchseating
requirements of the packer assembly, and differential pressure applied during testing. The expected
maximum packer pressure is calculated according to the following equation and is shown in Table 3.
P = (DP — DTW) * 0.433 + (DTW * 0.433 + 4,) * dpm
where: Pi = packer inflation pressure (psi)
DP = depth of set packer assembly (ft)
DTW = depth to water (ft)
1 = injection pressure during test (psi)
dpm = differential pressure multiplier
Table 3. WELL COMPLETION SPECIFICATIONS
5.1 Well Specifications for Shallow Wells (less than 300 ft)
Shallow monitoring wells will be drilled using an air rotary rig with water or foam as the drilling
fluid. The borehole diameter will be a minimum of 6 inches. Shallow monitoring wells will be
completed using 2 -inch ID Schedule 40 or Schedule 80 PVC and 0.02 -inch (20 -slot) factory- slotted
PVC casing. Monitoring well casing material will meet hang weight, tensile strength, and collapse
strength requirements for the proposed setting depths.
Well completion specifications for shallow wells (5300 feet) are as follows:
• 2 -inch ID, flush - threaded, Schedule 40 PVC (if TD <200 ft)
• 2 -inch ID, flush - threaded, Schedule 80 PVC (if TD >200 ft)
4109C.120309 7
