Bateman Creek
Surface water flow in Bateman Creek is seasonal and generally low. Flow, when it
occurs, is typically in the 2 quarter due to snowmelt and runoff. Occasional 3rd and 4
quarter flows due to seasonal rains also are observed or in the 1 quarter due to melting
conditions. Median measured (non -zero) flow is 9.5 gpm. Flow data are shown in Figure
4 -1.
The surface water in Bateman Creek (BCSW) is characterized as calcium - bicarbonate
water. Data in Table 4 -5 show the median pH value is circum- neutral at 7.55 SU. Data
in Table 4 -5 show the median nitrate and sulfate values are 0.07 mg/L as N and 45.1
mg/L, respectively. Time series plots of selected parameters (pH, nitrate, and sulfate) are
provided in Figure 4 -2.
Compilation data and statistics for aluminum, manganese, and zinc, which are common
geochemical indicators in the Diatreme, for BCSW are provided in Table 4 -5. The water
quality data indicate low and relatively stable parameter concentrations for aluminum,
manganese, and zinc for BCSW since 1997. Other trace metals are analyzed as part of
the monitoring program. Median values for arsenic, cadmium, chromium, copper, lead,
mercury, selenium, and silver for BCSW were less than the analytical detection limits.
Trace metal data also are provided in Table 4 -5.
Wilson Creek (below Bateman Creek and North Fork of Wilson Creek)
Surface water flow in Wilson Creek at WCSW -01, below the confluence of Bateman
Creek and the North Fork of Wilson Creek, peaks in the 2 quarter due to snowmelt and
runoff. Median measured (non -zero) flow is 102.4 gpm. Flow data are shown in Figure
4 -1.
The surface water in Wilson Creek at WCSW -01 is characterized as calcium - bicarbonate
water. Data in Table 4 -6 shows the median pH value is 7.98 SU. Median nitrate and
sulfate values are 3.37 mg/L as N and 140 mg /L, respectively. Time series plots of
selected parameters (pH, nitrate, and sulfate) are provided in Figure 4 -2.
Compilation data and statistics for aluminum, manganese, and zinc, which are common
geochemical indicators in the Diatreme, for WCSW -01 are provided in summary Table 4-
6. The water quality data indicate low and relatively stable parameter concentrations for
aluminum, manganese, and zinc for WCSW -01 since 2000. Other trace metals are
analyzed as part of the monitoring program.
