The concentrated gold solution is pumped to electrowinning cells for further gold recovery. In
the electrowinning cells, an electrical current is passed through an anode submerged in the gold
solution. Gold and silver are plated onto the cathodes in the electrowinning cells. The cathodes
are then cleaned and the gold/silver residue is pressure filtered before being sent to the AGADR
refinery for further refining Note that there is no refinery planned at the SGADR and the
recovered gold/silver sludge from both the AGADR electrowinning circuit and the SGADR
electrowinning circuit will be processed in the existing gold refinery located at the AGADR.
The gold/silver sludge will be transported in vessels from the SGADR to the AGADR.
Barren solution from the electrowinning circuit at each ADR is pumped to the barren solution
storage tank for recycling onto each respective VLF.
Backup systems are designed into the operational features at both ADR facilities in order to keep
solutions circulating. Both ADRs will have backup pumps available both within the pumping
system and spares stored at the warehouse to ensure that if a pump is down because of failure or
routine maintenance, additional pumps are available. Should line power go down for any reason,
there will be emergency generators that will provide power to keep the pumping operational. Six
emergency generators currently are in place adjacent to the AGADR and on the AGVLF to
provide the necessary power at those facilities in the event of power failure to line power supply
system. Four emergency generators will be available at the SGADR and SGVLF.
8.1 Arequa Gulch ADR
No major changes to the existing AGADR facility will occur as part of MLE2. The existing
AGADR facility is designed to have five carbon -in- column trains for recovery of gold and is
designed to handle flows up to an average of 16,000 gpm and a maximum of 19,000 gpm. The
AGADR and associated AGVLF flow diagram is shown on Figure 8 -1.
Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mining Company
Cresson Project Mine Life Extension 2
8 -2
