Gold Run Gulch <br />Gold Run Gulch is a small ephemeral watershed flowing southwest into Cripple Creek <br />between Arequa Gulch and Squaw Gulch. There are no surface water flows in the <br />watershed and no monitoring. <br />Squaw Gulch <br />Squaw Gulch is an ephemeral stream flowing southwest into Cripple Creek in response to <br />precipitation events and snowmelt. As would be anticipated, when flow occurs, it <br />increases as it flows downstream. Surface water conditions in Squaw Gulch are <br />monitored at three locations between the storm water sediment pond below the SGOSA <br />(Enhanced Management Pond or "EMP" 007) and the confluence of Squaw Gulch and <br />Cripple Creek. The sample station designations are: SG -05, SG -07, and SG -10 from <br />upstream to downstream. <br />Squaw Gulch use classifications include recreation (Class N), agriculture, and Class 2 <br />cold water aquatic habitat. Standards exist for pH, dissolved oxygen, and E. Coli, <br />nitrates, nitrites, and cyanide, and selected trace metals including arsenic, boron, <br />cadmium, chromium, copper, lead, mercury, selenium, and zinc. Water in Squaw Gulch <br />is a calcium sulfate, with median pH values from 4.15 (upstream at SG -05) increasing to <br />4.63 at SG -07 to 6.10 (downstream at SG -10), median nitrate values between 3.93 mg/L- <br />N (upstream at SG -05) decreasing to 2.92 mg/L -N mid - drainage at SG -07 and 3.01 -N <br />mg/L downstream at SG -10, and median sulfate concentrations increasing from 247 mg/L <br />(upstream) to 754 mg/L mid - drainage and then decreasing (downstream) to 615.5 mg/L. <br />Poverty Gulch <br />Poverty Gulch is an ephemeral tributary to Cripple Creek that has historically exhibited <br />no flow. Surface runoff from portions of the backfilled Schist Island Mine area would <br />drain into this watershed after closure. <br />Cripple Creek <br />Cripple Creek is a seasonal stream and the flows vary widely from <10 gallons per <br />minutes ( "gpm ") to over 1,500 gpm. The flow variance is related to precipitation, <br />snowmelt events, and City of Cripple Creek's wastewater treatment plant which, in part, <br />maintains minimum flows in Cripple Creek. CC &V has four monitoring stations on <br />Cripple Creek: one of which has been actively monitored since mid -1993 and the others <br />of which have been monitored since early 1996. The upstream location, site CC -01, is <br />influenced by the City of Cripple Creek's wastewater treatment plant. Site CC -02 is <br />south of the confluence with Squaw Gulch; Site CC -03 is downstream of contributions <br />Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mining Company <br />Cresson Project Mine Life Extension 2 <br />4 -11 <br />
