12.3.4 Monitoring/Erosion Control
CC &V will monitor the reclamation sites and evaluate the potential need for additional
seeding or fertilization on those areas. The reclamation areas also will be observed for
evidence of any potential erosion or gullies that may be caused from storm water runoff.
Corrective measures will be taken, as appropriate, to address reclamation areas that may
require additional reclamation work.
12.4 Mine Life Extension 2 Reclamation
This section addresses the reclamation specific to the various areas of the Cresson Project. The
reclamation and closure procedures approved under previous application, as well as, planned
reclamation under MLE2 will serve as the basis for the plan presented in the following
subsections.
12.4.1 Mine Areas
Reclamation of the mining areas that are not backfilled will involve redistributing growth
medium in the accessible bottoms of the areas to a depth of approximately six inches or
less depending on soil availability. Areas receiving growth medium will receive the full
complements of revegetation activities (i.e., fertilizer, seeding, mulching, etc.), as
appropriate. Upon completion of mining, reclamation of mine areas will be completed
within an approximately seven -year period. This discussion addresses only those
portions of the mine areas that will not be backfilled. Backfilled mine areas are discussed
in Section 12.4.2.
Upon completion of mining and any associated reclamation activities, a six -foot high
fence will be installed around the crest of those portions of the remaining highwalls in the
mining areas that are greater than approximately 100 feet. These fences will be placed to
control access to the edge of those highwall benches. Signs will be placed along the
fencing to warn the general public of the hazard of the highwall after reclamation as
appropriate.
Wildlife ingress and egress will be provided along the final reclaimed haul road routes.
The reclaimed haul roads will provide wildlife routes within the boundaries of the
reclaimed mining areas. Remaining highwall benches will act to catch rocks, and will,
over time become at least partially covered with rock falls from above, and will form
talus slopes for wildlife habitate. As a result, no revegetation of highwall benches is
planned.
Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mining Company
Cresson Project Mine Life Extension 2
12 -8
