United States Department of Agriculture
a MRCS
Natural Resources Conservation Service
Grand Junction Service Center
2738 Crossroads Blvd. Suite 102
Grand Junction, CO 81506
January 14, 2011
Subject: Fruita Loadout
To: Michael Galloway
ERO Resources
970 - 242 -4511 ext. 107
970 - 242 -8489
As per your request, using the map you sent me January 13, 2011, I have reviewed the soils associated
with the area near the proposed Fruita Loadout rail line.
Steve Woltjer, MRCS District Conservationist, Grand Junction Field Office had previously determined
that there is no Prime Farmland on this site and sent a letter to Tamme Bishop, PE stating this fact. It is
important to note that there is no cropping history for this area, and no record of it ever having been
farmed nor irrigated. Most of the soils in the area shown on your map are within Land Capability Class
7c or 8s Dryland. This would be considered very poor land for possible conversion to cropland. With
no irrigation, no record of ever having been farmed, and this Land Capability Class the possibility of
this particular area ever being farmed is extremely low.
Helping People Help the Land
An Equal Opportunity Provider and Employer
