PROCEDURE 1 -10 Page 3 of 10 <br />APPENDIX 1 -10C <br />Spill - No Fire <br />PPE: Protective clothing & respiratory protection appropriate to the most immediate health hazard; eye - <br />protection; rubber gloves and boots. <br />Note: Focus response on the most hazardous situation and material first. <br />Radioactive Materials Response: <br />X Evaluate situation. <br />X Secure area. <br />X Dam or dike to contain material. <br />X Do not add water. <br />Radioactive Materials Remediation: <br />X Evaluate situation. <br />X Do not add water. <br />X Pick up liquids if proper equipment is available, or absorb spilled materials with compatible material if <br />liquid retrieval is not possible. <br />X Transport contaminated soils to the West Waste Dump storage area for temporary storage until a <br />permanent disposal site is determined. <br />Spill - Fire <br />PPE: Protective clothing appropriate to the most immediate health hazard; self- contained breathing <br />apparatus (alternately air - purifying respirator with at least HEPA cartridges for very small fires that can <br />be quickly knocked down); eye - protection; rubber gloves and boots. <br />Note: Focus response on the most hazardous situation and material first. <br />Radioactive Materials Response: <br />X Evaluate situation. <br />X Secure area. <br />X Respond to fire and most immediately hazardous material present (see other Guidelines). <br />X Direct extinguishing agent in a manner to avoid splashing spilled material. <br />X Keep area well ventilated. Watch for airborne radioactive materials in smoke. <br />X Contain materials and runoff. Dam and dike at a safe distance to control runoff. <br />X Route collected runoff to the Emergency Storage Pond, if possible. <br />X Perform overhaul. <br />Radioactive Materials Remediation: <br />X Evaluate situation. <br />X Certify fire as extinguished. <br />X Absorb spilled materials, if possible, with earth or other suitable material. <br />X Transport contaminated soils to the West Waste Dump storage area for temporary storage until a <br />permanent disposal site is determined. <br />
