 Mr Travis Marshall
Division of Reclamation Mining and Safety
101 South 3rd Suite 301
Grand Junction, CO 81501
February 9, 2012
(a Uti `.
Shell International Exploration & Production /
RECEIVED
FEB 2 1 2012
b AND JUNCTION FIELD OFFICE
PECtAWTITION MINING & SAFETY
M
Shell International Exploration &
Production Company
Bellaire Technology Center
3737 Bellaire Blvd
Houston, TX 77025
Internet http: / /www.shell.com /ep
Subject: Modification to Notice of Intent # P- 2010 -26; Shell Exploration and Production Company, Rio Blanco County, CO
Dear Mr. Marshall,
Shell requests modification of the above cited operation to dispose of drill cuttings and minimal attendant water in an on-
site cuttings pit. The attached revised site map shows the as -built contours and final facilities layout and the cuttings pit.
The small road to the north of the main access road is within the existing right -of -way and does not constitute additional
disturbance. The road has been constructed to provide access to the power supply meter.
In the original project description, drill cuttings were to be disposed of offsite. At the request of Rio Blanco County to
minimize road traffic, and with the verbal permission of the BLM, Shell requests a change to the original plan to allow
disposal of a portion of the drill cuttings on site (see attached figure). The cuttings to be disposed of onsite are those
comprising strata from ground surface to a depth of 1840 ft, which is top of the L4 water bearing unit. All remaining
cuttings and associated brine from the L4 will be transported from the site and disposed of as indicated in the original
project description. Reclamation of the cuttings pit will consist of grading to contour and placement of sufficient growth
medium to ensure successful revegetation of the site for rangeland post- mining land use.
Site grading was completed in December 2011 and an as -built survey was completed shortly thereafter. All necessary
stormwater management features were included in the construction stormwater plan and will be modified as necessary to
support operations. Buildings labeled "Construction" and "Wells" are temporary buildings to be removed following
construction. All other buildings and facilities will be on -site during operations, and are subject to reclamation bonding.
The attached figures will be used in future communications related to layout of the East RDD pilot project.
Please contact me if you have questions or need additional information. You may reach me at (713)245 -7385.
Sincerely,
Harry H 'osey
Senior Production Geologist
Cc: Paul Daggett, BLM -WRFO
Jeff Stevenson, Houston file
Tom Gillis, Denver file
