CONCLUSIONS
Results of the second half, 2011, groundwater sampling performed at the GCC Rio Grande
Cement Plant during October 2011 are presented herein. All analyses required were
performed as requested.
The Colorado DRMS has provided Numeric Protection Level standards for the GCC
groundwater monitoring project for four constituents of concern (sulfate, TDS, Radium 226
and Radium 228). None of the numeric standards were exceeded during the second half
2011 monitoring event, with the exception of TDS.
TDS concentrations exceed DRMS Numeric Protection Levels in two of the three
monitoring wells. The exceedences do not appear to represent any trend, and are not
associated with operation of the GCC cement plant. Elevated TDS is likely related to
falling water levels in the vicinity of the St Charles River compliance wells, and subsequent
concentration of dissolved constituents in the shallow aquifer.
6
