Kerr Coal Company <br />PO Box 459 <br />115 East Main Street <br />Florence, CO 81226 <br />(719) 784 -6395 719 784 -4352 fax <br />PUBLIC NOTICE, <br />KERR COAL COMPANY - MARR MINE LOADOUT SITE <br />TECHNICAL REVISION <br />Kerr Coal Company (Kerr) has filed an application with the Colorado Division of Reclamation Mining & <br />Safety (DRMS) requesting approval for a Technical Revision pertaining to Kerr's former Loadout site. Kerr <br />is the former operator and current permittee under Permit No. C -80 -006. Mining ceased in 1993 and the <br />responsibility for reclamation continues for a minimum of 10 years following permanent reseeding of the <br />site(s). The purpose of this revision is to terminate the groundwater monitoring requirements for the two <br />remaining alluvial wells (Monitor Wells AP -1 and AP -2) located at the former Loadout site. Through the <br />years of operations and the reclamation period, Kerr has demonstrated that all groundwater monitoring <br />requirements have been satisfied. The Loadout site is located approximately one mile south of Walden. <br />The mine is located 10 miles east of Walden, Colorado on County Road 12E. The Loadout site is located <br />just south of Walden near the former Louisiana - Pacific Lumber mill site and adjacent to the Illinois River. <br />The mining permit covers areas within the Mine and the Loadout permit boundaries as listed below. <br />These areas are situated on the Johnny Moore Mountain, Gould NW, Walden and Eagle Hill 7.5 minute <br />USGS quadrangle maps in the 6 Prime Meridian: <br />Mine <br />• Township 8 North, Range 78 West — Section 2 <br />• Township 9 North, Range 78 West - Sections 22, 23, 25, 26, 27 and 35 <br />Loadout Site <br />• Township 9 North, Range 79 West — Sections 28 and 29. <br />The following individuals or entities hold surface or mineral rights and interests within the Mine and <br />Loadout permit boundaries: <br />• U.S. Department of Interior — Bureau of Land management (BLM) <br />• State of Colorado — Board of Land Commissioners <br />• Kerr Coal Company (Operating Company) <br />• Kerrco, Limited (Owning entity) <br />• Centurian Investment Company <br />• Douglas Barnett (landowner) <br />Complete copies of the Kerr Mining and Reclamation Plan document are on file and available for public <br />review and inspection at the following locations: <br />> Northwest Colorado Consultants (NWCC), Inc. <br />2580 Copper Ridge Drive <br />Steamboat Springs, CO 80487 <br />Phone — 970 - 879 -7888 <br />> Colorado Department of Natural Resources <br />Division of Reclamation, Mining & Safety <br />1313 Sherman Street - Rm. 215 <br />Denver, CO 80203 <br />Phone — 303 - 866 -3567 <br />Written comments, objections and requests for public hearing or informal conference may be submitted to <br />the DRMS at the above address.
