This was a surety reduction inspection (SR2) for an active 112c sand and gravel operation conducted by Eric
Scott of DRMS for the Ft. Lupton Sand & Gravel Pit site. DRMS met with Lynn Mayer Shults of L.G. Everist
on site. Portions of the Ft. Lupton Sand and Gravel site are currently under contract by the City of Aurora for
development as water storage, and will be purchased by the city in phases as the mining is completed.
The surety reduction requested on December 27, 2011 was based on completed work on the Hill /Oakley phase
and the Fort Lupton East phase of the operation. The slurry walls for both of these phases have passed the State
Engineers Office testing process, and the earthwork, final sloping and top - soiling has been completed. The
bond for the Ft Lupton phase slurry wall has already been released. The bond reduction contemplated by SR2 is
based on the 20% slurry wall bond and all required earth work for the Hill /Oakley phase, and completion of the
required earth work for the eastern part of the Ft Lupton phase. Seeding and complete revegetation with the
approved seed mixes still needs to be completed before these areas could be considered reclaimed for final
release.
At the time of this SR inspection, the earthwork for the Hill /Oakley and eastern Ft Lupton phases of the site
appeared to be well done and completed according to the approved reclamation plan. Upon further discussion
with LG Everist, it has been decided that although the reclamation work has been satisfactorily completed for
these areas (with only the final vegetation remaining) that it would be more appropriate to make the adjustments
to the required bond amount in conjunction with the upcoming permit amendment.
Other activities at the site appeared to be in compliance with the approved mining and reclamation plan at the
time of the inspection.
Inspection Contact Address
Lynn Mayer Shults
L.G.
