Note A — 2012 Annual Report
Knapweed — Control efforts have continued over the past five years. Several herbicides have
been used. Milestone has been used for the last two years. Spot spraying of knapweed plants in
the early summer and late fall is the method of control. The primary area of occurrence in the
last two years has been in the extreme northeast corner of the permit area along the irrigation
ditch. No live plants were found in the fall of 2011. We will continue checking.
Whitetop — We became aware this was a problem plant only two years ago. There was vary
limited spraying in 2010 with Telar XP. Last year, we had Whitetop covering about 30% of the
permit area. We sprayed with Telar XP on two occasions in the early summer when the plant
was in the early bloom stage. We tried to cover it all, but from past experience in other areas of
our 2,200 -acre ranch, it will take at least one more year, probably more, to kill it all.
We coordinate our weed control efforts with the Montrose County Weed Control Department.
