2008 Drill Site Reclamation
These sites continue to mature from last season. Annual weeds were essentially no longer
an issue except on two sites, SC -TG46 and SC -TG53. On SC -TG46 cheatgrass continues to
be an issue. Dominance by Russian thistle on SC -TG53 appears to be subsiding but
perennial seedling density is still lower than desired. Interseeding was performed on these
sites in November to augment the existing stands.
Perennial vegetation continued to mature in an expected progression. Shrubs seem to have
been affected the most by early weed problems.
Erosion/sedimentation was not an issue on any of the sites. The surface roughness created
during reclamation adequately retained precipitation and sediment on the sites.
2009 Drill Site Reclamation
These sites show expected progression for the second growing season. Annual weeds
(cheatgrass, Russian thistle, and blue mustard) were the primary problem on the sites but
reducing in density. These annual species are expected to diminish as these sites mature.
Three sites were progressing more slowly than desired. SC -HG33, SC -HG44, and SC-
HG54 were interseeded to help augment the perennial vegetation.
Erosion/sedimentation was not an issue on any of the sites. The surface roughness created
during reclamation adequately retained precipitation and sediment on the sites.
2010 Drill Site Reclamation
This if the first growing season for these sites. As such, they are frequently dominated by
annual weeds. The weed species most prevalent on these sites was Russian thistle. Other
species noted included cheatgrass, lambsquarter, blue mustard, and tumble mustard.
