We were extremely pleased to see that the Proposed Fruita Loadout Decision and
associated BA addressed CPW's major concerns for the Fruita Loadout project, and recognize that
our concerns with the McClane Canyon Mine will be handled separately.
Lining the three sediment ponds, moving the placement of railroad bridge pilings away from Reed
Walsh, and installing sediment barriers are critical mitigation efforts that will greatly reduce
potential impact to endangered aquatic life in Reed Walsh and the Colorado River.
We greatly appreciate you arranging a site visit Thursday, 9 February, for Paul Creeden, Lori
Martin, and Bill Buchholz, so they could walk the site with you and Tamme Bishop (Project
Engineer from J.E. Stover & Associates). This visit allowed our CPW staff to get a better
understanding of the final layout, and the extent of your environmental and wildlife mitigation
measures.
The CPW and I look forward to a continued strong working relationship and dialogue on this
important project. If you have any further questions, please contact myself at 970 - 250 -4507, or
District Wildlife Manager Paul Creeden at 970 - 250 -4501.
Sincerely,
JT Romatzke, Area Wildlife Manager
Cc.
