Bamberg Ecology, LLC
Plant species diversity was good during the 2011 inspection. Species included western
wheatgrass (Pascopyrum smithii), four -wing saltbush (Atriplex canescens) and green
rabbitbrush (Chrysothamnus viscidiflorus), buckwheat (Eriogonum deflexum), blazing
Star (Mentzelia laevicaulis), broom snakeweed (Gutierrezia sarothrae), and Indian rice -
grass (Achnatherum hymenoides), blue grama (Bouteloua gracilis), shadscale saltbush
(Atriplex confertifolia), and evening primrose (Oenothera spp). Some plants, particularly
the grasses, were clipped, presumably from grazing by cattle and wildlife. Wildlife ob-
servations were minimal during each of the short, mid -day visits.
Vegetative cover is still low due to their relatively small size; however, sufficient precipi-
tation over the last three years has kept the majority of the plants that germinated alive
and with continued growth. This degree of vegetative cover at this point is as good as
can be expected given the low rainfall of this area and the coarse, low plant - available
nutrient levels of the soil substrate on this rocky terrain. This mine permit does not spe-
cify any vegetative success criteria for release.
www.bambergecology.com * (303) 249 -8051 2
