Page 2 January 26, 2012
that the sump pump cycling was related in some way to the precipitation event. However, the actual
flow paths are not readily explained.
WWL proposes to sample the sump water (there is approximately one foot of water in the sump as of
January 24 2012) and evaporation pond water. The results will be used to assess whether the water in
the sump is from the pond. Sump water that may be significantly diluted compared to pond water may
indicate an influence of precipitation in the December pumping cycle. In addition, WWL will step up
winter inspections to at least monthly even though pond levels are very low and most of the water is
frozen. If necessary, access will be done on foot. In particular, WWL will time inspections to fall within
24 hours after significant precipitation events as recorded at the Altenbern meteorological station. Liner
inspections and any needed repairs will be conducted in the spring when the liner becomes more pliable
in response to warmer temperatures.
If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at 970 - 242 -0170.
Sincerely,
Bruce D.
