It is very likely that there are dens
in the area described in the application. Special care should be taken to avoid disturbance of any dens that
are found in the area.
Because of the type of activity that is planned in the area there will likely be a number of roads added to the
site. Roads should be constructed to minimize runoff into the Greenhorn Creek and in a way to minimize
erosion and sedimentation into the creek. If reseeding is to take place after mining has completed native
trees, shrubs, and grass lists are available from the Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS)
extension office in Pueblo.
Bear use in and around the community of Rye is very high. If there are dumpsters or trash receptacles on
the property, Colorado Parks & Wildlife recommends that they are "bear proof' containers and it is also
recommended to have electric fence around the containers or trash area to reduce bear activity.
If you have any questions regarding this letter, please contact myself (719) 561- 5303or District Wildlife
Manager Jeremiah Johnson at (719) 250 -4269. The CDPW thanks you in advance for the opportunity to
comment on any future proposals.
Sincerely;
Michael Trujillo
Colorado Division of Wildlife
Cc Jeremiah Johnson
STATE OF COLORADO
John W.
