Soil maps and data contained in this report have
been prepared to assist Hayden Gulch Terminal and the Colorado Division of Minerals end
GeoloBY (CDMG) in examining the soil resources of the area with respect to their potential
use in land reclamation efforts. The information addresses the Regulations of the
Colorado Mined Lend Rec lemation Board for Coal Mining et Rules 2.04.4 and 2.04.12
regarding the requirements for inf ormetion on soil resources end prime farmland in permit
eppl (cations. This information was used to develop a topsoil handling plan as required et
Rules 2.05.3(5), 2.05.4(2)(1) and 4.06.
The Xayden Gulch Terminal, int. loadout facility and railroad spur was constructed from
Fall 1977 to 1979. Per Hayden Cinch's permit document (C-80.003) which was successfully
renewed in 1987 and 1992, "topsoil was stripped during Fall 1977 and 1978 from the entire
• facilities site, railroad spur, end railroad loop end stockpiled for future use."
.Salvaged soil includes all suitable "A" horizon topsoil and some upper "B" horizon
subsoil. Most of the facilities, railroad cuts, end railroad embankments have been
reseeded since initial disturbance. Soil investigations were conducted during November
1992 to determine if soil had been respr eed prior to reseeding the embankment and whether
soil still exists in stockpiles.
Hayden Gulch Terminal, Inc, contr ac led Inter Mountain Soils (INS) in November 1992 to
complete a topsoil inventory, suitability assessment, and volume determination for the
existing disturbance area within the proposed permit. IMS described, sampled es
appropriate, and evaluated for suitability the soil stored in three stockpiles, the
undisturbed soils within the railroad loop, and cut end fill slopes along the railroad
spur. The INS report is included es Attachment 9-1. The site location map is included es
Exhibit 9.1, Soil Types, Sample Sites and Topsoil S[ockpi les.
The United States Department of Agriculture Soil Conservation Service (USDA-SCS) Craig
Field Office for Routt County completed en Order 2 soil survey of [he Hayden Gulch
• Terminal site prior to disturbance.
