(WCRH) in 1980 revealed no evidence of historic or prehistoric sites in
or adjacent to the permit area (see Attachment 5 -1 - Mamorandtim dated March 41 1980 from Charles
W. Wheeler (RCM to Cass Legal, W.R. Grace and Company).
A representative of Hayden Gulch Terminal, Inc. contacted the Colorado State Preservation Office
(SHPO) and the Little Snake Resource Area Office of the Bureau of Land Management (BM to update
and verify the results of the 1980 records search. The SHPO responded on November 10, 1992 with
the results of a search of the Colorado Inventory of Cultural Resources (Attachment 5 -1). The
SPHO search resulted in identification of one archaeological survey in the specified search areas
i
Seneca II -W Coal Lease. Permit C -82 -057 P.R. 1, Volume 1, Tab 5). A portion of the survey was
conducted in the Sh4+Z; -B4 of Section 14, h4tft hMa of Section 23, and NW% Section 22, all in T6N,
R88W. Three isolated finds were encountered in the survey, including one utilized flake and two
historic objects (all in Section 17, M, R88W). No sites or finds were found in areas that
overlap or are adjacent to the loadaut permit area.
The BIM responded on November 18, 1992. The same survey previously referenoed was identified,
including the finding that no cultural resources were recorded in the vicinity of the southern
portion of the loadout permit area.
This information indicates that no cultural and historic resources or archaeological features
will be affected by operational activities within the permit area. Should additional surface
disturbances be warranted as a result of operation or expansion of the
dN
1 Revised 10197
(Sections
10, 14, 15, 22 and 23; T6N, R88i1) .
