This modification will only slightly increase the size of the mine, is on
the same soil mapping unit and nothing else is changing. The original plan applies to this
modification as well. The only change would be an increase in any seed quantities (from the
original seed plan) that you would apply to the site due to the increased area disturbed.
The plan is to reclaim the affected site to a rangeland use.
The soil at the mine site is #18 Casvare- Teaspoon complex 20 to 50% slopes. It derived
from residuum weathered from metamorphic rock and /or residuum weathered from granite. The
soil at the stockpile site is #10 Bronell gravelly sandy loam, 2 to 15% slopes. I have attached
soils information to this report on this site. The seed mix recommended for the upper site will
work on this site as well.
Vegetation consists of blue grama, western wheatgrass, sideoats grama, needlegrass,
pinon pine and junipers. Present and post mining use of the site is rangeland /grazed (pinon-
juniper) woodland which is a suitable land use for the site. Current mining activity will maintain
existing slopes. There is neither a danger of increased erosion, nor will the modification cause a
change in direction of flow.
Please be vigilant in monitoring the site for the occurrence of noxious weeds. Within a
short distance of the site, JR Phillips, Fremont County Weed Manager, has identified Russian
knapweed a noxious weed. I would recommend that contact be made with the Fremont County
Weed Advisory Board for a check of the site and subsequent weed control plans if noxious
weeds are found on site.
Sincerely,
cer
W"i 0 "
Rick Romano
District Conservationist
Canon City Field Office
cc: Joan Adair, President, Fremont Conservation District
attachments: Soil reports 17
Helping People Help the Land
An Equal Opportunity Provider and Employer
