Outfall 002 selenium values were 6 ug/1 on July 11 and 5 ug/1
on August 8.
In the previous three years (2008- 2010), Outfall 002 never exceeded the 4.6 ug/1
selenium limit It is unknown as to why these exceedances occurred, although we suspect
it may be due to the record snowfall and rainfall, and near- record snowmelt runoff that
occurred in Routt County this winter and spring. Perhaps that unusually high runoff
somehow mobilized the selenium. In any case, we hope that these excursions are
transitory. The September 13 and October 4 selenium values, 4 ug/1 both times, are below
the standard.
Please call me at 970 - 276 -5209, or email me at djones @peabodyenergy.com, if you have
any questions.
Sincerely,
i
Dennis Jones
Hydrologist I
Peabody Energy
P.O.
