•
t
I
.~
2.05.4(2)
(2)(a) In Mining Area 3, only two pits were mined in two
strip pits before the mine was idled because its coal sales
contract was not renewed. A total of four 300' X 90' pits were
mined from the location of strip pits 2 & 3 as shown on Map 134.
Only about 10 acres was disturbed.
(b) The amount of performance bond is developed assuming
that the bond would be forfeited at the time reclamation
liabilities were highest during the mining of the four pits. The
worst case would occur when there is the maximum amount of material
in the spoil ridges and in the topsoil stockpile. Approximately
150,000 cubic yards of spoil was handled during the mining of the
four pits. (4 each X 300' X 90' X 29' deep X 1.3 swell). The worst
case would be when two pits were open, therefore 75,000 cubic yards
of spoil would have to be moved to backfill the two pits.
In round numbers the amount of material, measured in
cubic yards, that would be handled to reclaim the mine at the worst
case condition is as follows:
Topsoil 27,000
Spoil From Ridges 75,000
The 27,000 cubic yards of topsoil represents 10
acres of disturbance in 20" deep topsoil.
The average haul distance from topsoil pile #3 to
the pits in strips 2 & 3 and the average grade is as follows:
Topsoil #3 Topsoil #4
Haul Distance 1200' N/A
Grade 0.08 N/A
2.05-20ii September 1993
