Reclamation Schedule <br />The schedule for the reclamation of the Bear No. 3 Mine is presented on Figure 4a, <br />page 2.05 -27Ra. The extent of the mine workings at the time of closure is <br />presented on Map9A. <br />Ponds <br />There is one sediment pond located at the Bear No. 3 Mine surface facilities which <br />will remain in place until the vegetation is established and pond removal is <br />authorized by the DMG. <br />The mine water treatment pond was constructed and operational by the end of June <br />1999. The pond is utilized to passively treat the spring water that is emerging from <br />the slide. See drawing 11 -4. The pond has not significantly improved the quality of <br />the water as determined by conductivity measurements. During 2001 the average <br />conductivity readings at the spring and pond outflow were 4685 and 4535 <br />respectively, an insignificant reduction. The most significant impact of the passive <br />treatment pond is the pH increase from the spring to the pond outflow. During 2001 <br />the spring had an average pH of 7.0 and the pond outflow had an average pH of <br />8.7. <br />The Operator plans to install a twelve inch diameter treatment pond bypass pipeline <br />as shown on drawing 11 -4. DRMS approval will be obtained before the bypass <br />pipeline is put in service. Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment <br />approval and a revised NPDES permit will also be obtained before the bypass <br />pipeline is put into service. The treatment pond will be reclaimed shortly after the <br />pond bypass line is installed. <br />Monitoring Wells <br />Alluvial wells AA1 and AA3 are located at the surface facilities. These wells will <br />remain in place until the DMG approves the termination of this monitoring. As noted <br />above, AA1 was destroyed by the November 1997 slide.
