Reclamation Schedule The schedule for the reclamation of the Bear No. 3 Mine is presented on Figure 4a, page 2.05 -27Ra. The extent of the mine workings at the time of closure is presented on Map9A. Ponds There is one sediment pond located at the Bear No. 3 Mine surface facilities which will remain in place until the vegetation is established and pond removal is authorized by the DMG. The mine water treatment pond was constructed and operational by the end of June 1999. The pond is utilized to passively treat the spring water that is emerging from the slide. See drawing 11 -4. The pond has not significantly improved the quality of the water as determined by conductivity measurements. During 2001 the average conductivity readings at the spring and pond outflow were 4685 and 4535 respectively, an insignificant reduction. The most significant impact of the passive treatment pond is the pH increase from the spring to the pond outflow. During 2001 the spring had an average pH of 7.0 and the pond outflow had an average pH of 8.7. The Operator plans to install a twelve inch diameter treatment pond bypass pipeline as shown on drawing 11 -4. DRMS approval will be obtained before the bypass pipeline is put in service. Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment approval and a revised NPDES permit will also be obtained before the bypass pipeline is put into service. The treatment pond will be reclaimed shortly after the pond bypass line is installed. Monitoring Wells Alluvial wells AA1 and AA3 are located at the surface facilities. These wells will remain in place until the DMG approves the termination of this monitoring. As noted above, AA1 was destroyed by the November 1997 slide.
