DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES
DIVISION OF WATER RESOURCES
Ms. Kimberly Frick
Clear Water Solutions
8010 S. County Road 5, Ste. 105
Windsor, CO 80528
January 9, 2012
RE: West Farm Pit Substitute Water Supply Plan; M -08 -078
Sections 23 & 28, T22S, R46W, 6 PM
Water Division 2, Water District 67
Plan Period: May 1, 2011 through April 30, 2013
Dear Ms. Frick;
John W. Hickenlooper
Governor
Mike King
Executive Director
Dick Wolfe, P.E.
Director /State Engineer
This letter is in response to the application submitted January 25, 2011, requesting a
renewal of a substitute water supply plan ( "SWSP ") for a sand and gravel pit to be operated by
GP Ranches, LLC ( "Applicant ") in accordance with C.R.S. §37 -90- 137(11). The applicant shall
be responsible for compliance with this plan, but the State Engineer's Office may also pursue
the landowner for eventual compliance. The required fee of $257 (receipt no. 3648894) has
been submitted.
Plan Operation
The West Farm Gravel Pit will be dry mined with the use of dewatering trenches and a
discharge settling pond. The length of the dewatering trenches will change throughout mining,
but the maximum will occur when two phases are completely mined but reclamation has not yet
begun on any given phase. The maximum size of the dewatering trench will be 4,350 feet long
and 5 feet wide (0.5 acre). The discharge settling pond will be 50 feet by 100 feet (0.11 acres)
for a maximum total exposed surface area of the site during mining to be 0.61 acres. You have
estimated that this results in an annual evaporative use of 2.5 acre -feet.
Operational uses of groundwater include water retained in the mined material that is
removed from the gravel pit site and water used to control dust on haul roads and stockpiles at
the West Farm Pit. You have estimated the total annual amount of material to be mined as
750,000 tons, at 4% moisture content, which equals a consumptive use value of 22.1 acre -feet.
You have also estimated the amount of groundwater to be used for onsite dust control, which is
considered to be 100% consumptive, as 6.2 acre -feet annually. The total consumptive use of
groundwater would be 28.3 acre -feet. The total on -site use of groundwater would be 30.8 acre -
feet.
RECEIVED
JAN 0 9 2012
Division of Reclamation
Mining & Safety
Office of the State Engineer
1313 Sherman Street, Suite 818 • Denver, CO 80203 • Phone: 303 - 866 -3581 • Fax: 303 - 866 -3589
http: / /water.state.co.us
