I have been made aware of the existence of the structure and diversion. No further
action is necessary at this time.
From: Mike Thompson jmailto:mt@ reardonsteel.usl
Sent: Tuesday, December 20, 2011 3:32 PM
To: Titus, Jeff
Subject: sedimentation pond near Silverton
Hi Jeff -
Thanks for taking my call today.
The following is a summary of our phone call:
Running Sun Advisory Services has submitted an application for mineral exploration with the Division of Reclamation Mining and Safety. The
exploration site is called the Oyama Tunnel and is located at an elevation of 12,100 adjacent to Stony Pass in eastern San Juan County. The
Oyama Tunnel was last active in the mid -1980s and has a pre- existing discharge with continuous flows of "20gpm. From the tunnel portal
these flows are directed into a bermed channel that leads to a shallow sedimentation pond, also constructed in the 1980s. The pond then
has a reinforced low -point in its dam where water continuously flows out. The purpose of the pond is to allow suspended solids to fall out of
solution before the flows reach the receiving drainage (Stony Gulch).
The pond is oval shaped, with a long dimension of — 115 feet and a short dimension of — 45 feet, and has an average depth of "'3 feet. Using
these dimensions results in maximum holding capacity of 107,000 gallons if the pond were a perfect rectangle, which it is not.
After reviewing our application, DRMS has asked that we verify with CDWR that we do not need to secure water rights for use of the pond.
Please let me know your thoughts.
Thanks,
Mike
Mike Thompson
REARDON STEEL LLC
18050 Road G, Cortez, Colorado 81321
Office: (970) 565 0278
Cell: (970) 426 -2924
mt @reardonsteel.us
1
