[FEMA 1982]. In addition to the Occasional Operations characteristics, the infrequent flood will
completely submerge the ponds. During large flood events, water may overtop the berm between the
ponds and the main channel. It is anticipated that when the berm on the right bank of the main channel
overtop; both the channel side and the pond side of the berm will be full of water which will minimize
erosion potential. However, breaching of the main channel right bank berm can occur due to normal
channel migration.
Habitat Opportunities
Wide varieties of habitat opportunities have been or with minor modification can be created around the
ponds. There are several areas where the shoreline is very flat and the anticipated 2 -foot annual
fluctuations in pond water surface elevations will periodically inundate and provide near surface
groundwater to several areas including:
Pond #1: The northwest corner;
Pond #1: The northeast side where overtopping into Pond #3 will occur;
Pond #3: The west side where overtopping from Pond #1 will occur; and
Pond #3: The northeast corner.
Pond #4 features two islands which can provide isolated habitat for some species. Over 9,000 feet of
shoreline surrounding approximately 30 acres of open water surface will be provided with the
reclamation efforts.
COVALC001_Phase 11 Report_082211.docx
5.11 ANdERSON CONSULTING ENGINEERS, INC.
