Permit No. #M- 1987 -113. Thank you very much for granting our request for postponing final action on this Permit until your December meeting. The U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service) very much appreciates the time you provided for us to obtain and review the files related to this Permit for mining on the future Rocky Flats National Wildlife Refuge. My staff reviewed the permit files and developed a set of recommendations and comments to address our concerns regarding mining at the Rocky Flats Pit. We met with the applicant, Mr. Charlie McKay and his representative, and with Mr. Tony Waldron of your staff on December 1. We had an excellent meeting as most of our concerns and recommendations were similar to those developed by your staff in the Division of Minerals and Geology. The discussions among ourselves, Mr. McKay and Mr. Waldron were very productive. I believe the meeting concluded with a consensus that all of the Service's concerns will be adequately addressed in Permit stipulations that are acceptable to Mr. McKay. Thank you again for providing us.with -the time we needed to become familiar with your process and with the particular issues of this permit. We are very happy with the outcome of our meeting with your staff and the applicant, and look forward to continued cooperation on mineral issues at Rocky Flats.
