,, AR IS
The borehole was terminated at 208 ft bgs. Well construction was completed with a 10
ft screen centered in the borehole. The sand pack was set using 90% silica, NSF -61
sand to approximately 11 ft above the loss -of- return depths. A hydrated bentonite plug
was set above the sand pack. A high solids bentonite grout was emplaced above the
bentonite. The wellhead was completed with concrete and an 8 inch steel protective
casing and concrete apron. Detailed construction information is presented in Appendix
B.
Abandonment Activities
IC -10300 was abandoned during well completion on IC- 10300R to minimize grout
mixing. Prior to abandonment, the well had an existing depth of 189.5 ft bgs and a
static water level at 187.3 ft bgs. Abandonment included: backfilling the piezometer
with sand from 163 to 189 ft bgs, hydrated bentonite chips from 135 to 161 ft bgs, and
a high solids bentonite grout from 0 to 135 ft bgs. Grout was allowed to set for four
days. HMC -Pitch used a back -hoe to dig out and remove the top 6 ft of well casing,
the excavation was then backfilled.
IC -10370 was abandoned during well completion on IC- 10370R to minimize grout
mixing. Prior to abandonment, the well had an existing depth of 185.5 ft bgs and did
not have a measurable static water level. Abandonment activities included: backfilling
the piezometer with sand from 68 to 185.5 ft bgs, hydrated bentonite chips from 34 to
68 ft bgs, and a high solids bentonite grout from 0 to 34 ft bgs. Grout was allowed to
set for four days. HMC -Pitch used a back -hoe to dig out and remove the top 6 ft of well
casing, the excavation was then backfilled.
Well Development — September 15 - September 16 2011
ARCADIS returned to the site to develop both piezometers after the Driller
demobilized. Piezometers were developed by purging with a combination of 3 -inch
diameter by 36 -inch poly - bailers and a Grunfos 2 -inch Redi-Flow impeller pump.
Prior to, and between purging and pumping, piezometers were surged with a 1 -inch
diameter by 24 -inch PVC slug and a 3 -inch by 24 -inch PVC Slug.
The entire screen length of both piezometers was surged with slugs prior to purging.
Wells were then bailed by hand until water cleared. Additional casing volumes were
then removed with the impeller pump and field parameters were recorded in five
minute intervals until parameters had stabilized. Field measurements are presented in
Table D and included:
Pitch Reclamation Project -
Piezometer Replacement
Field Activities Report
gAapmjectb mci \ao000102.0001 pitch reclamation pmjectao102, barrick- pitch \piezo replacement reporting\drafl\far pdch_piezo_replacement_pdd.doc 8
