Short-term objectives for diffuse knapweed and kochia are treatment of all existing plants and
new growth. Long -term objectives for diffuse knapweed and kochia are treatment of all new
growth.
5.1 PREVENTION
Noxious, non - native, and undesirable plants quickly spread and take root in disturbed areas,
often before native grasses in the seed mix can take hold after revegetation efforts. To prevent
the spread of undesirable plants and weeds:
• all construction equipment will be thoroughly washed prior to mobilizing to the Site,
and
• only certified weed -free seed mixes and certified weed -free mulches will be used.
5.2 SPECIES PRIORITIZATION
The highest priority will be given to salt cedar and kochia due to the aerial extent of their
infestation on the property and the high seed production rate. Medium priority will be given to
musk thistle and diffuse knapweed since these are not as prevalent on the property.
5.3 INFESTATION PRIORITIZATION
Due to the relatively small acreage of the Site, all current weed patches are given highest
priority. The Site will be managed as a whole, with weed management activities for all species
occurring throughout the entire Site.
6.1 CONTROL MECHANISMS
6.1.1 Chemical
5.0 WEED MANAGEMENT PRIORITIES
6.0 WEED MANAGEMENT ACTIONS
Chemical control of weeds includes the use of chemicals in the form of herbicides to injure
and /or kill the weed. Herbicides have one or more active ingredient and are sold under a variety
of brand names. Herbicides can be applied at various times during the growing season and to
various parts of the plant to achieve different effects. Table 1 includes a list of herbicides,
susceptible plants, brand name examples, application rates, application timing, application
location on the plant, and comments about the herbicide. These treatment options may be
selected and implemented depending on site conditions, time of year, cost efficiency, and other
considerations.
Weed Management Plan 4
Arar="7
