December 12, 2011
M- 1986 -015 Pueblo East Pit Amendment 4
Adequacy Response
Exhibit D Mining Plan
If the mining face on the east side of Phase 7 failed, this failure could cause a failure in a
section of the west berm of the drainage channel. If a major rainfall event occurred while
the berm was down, the stormwater would enter the pit. Thus the pit would be partially
or mostly filled with turbid stormwater.
Transit Mix would first notify the DRMS of the event.
After repairing the mining face and channel berm section, Transit Mix would pump the
water in the pit into the settling basin in Phase 7. After adequate settling time, the water
would be pumped in the River. To shorten the time needed to pump out the pit, Transit
Mix could also pump the water into the settling basin in Phase 1.
This plan would require notification of the Water Quality Control Division of the
CDPHE and a temporary revision to the NPDES permit to allow a greater amount of
water to be discharged per day.
C: \Users \Gary\Documents \Job Projects \Transit Mix_Cont Materials\Pueblo East \Proposal Pit
Expansion \DRMS\Adequacy response \11 -12 -12 Exh D water pump out.doc
