DIVISION OF RECLAMATION, MINING AND SAFETY
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman St., Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
Phone: (303) 866 -3567
FAX: (303) 832 -8106
December 8, 2011
Randall Oser
Wildcat Mining Corporation
1630 Ringling Blvd
Sarasota, FL 34236
Dear Mr. Oser:
Office of
Mined Land Reclamation
STATE OF COLORADO
RE: Clarification on Location of LP-1,
May Day Idaho Mine Complex, Permit No. M- 1981 -185.
COLORADO
D I V I S I O N O F
RECLAMATION
MINING
— &—
SAFETY
John W. Hickenlooper
Governor
Mike King
Executive Director
Loretta E. Pitleda
Director
The Division has discovered an error in its correspondence dated November 17, 2011,
specifically under item 4 and regarding the location of ground water monitoring well LP -1.
Copy of the November 17 correspondence is enclosed, with the following corrections noted.
... According to Figure G -1, dated October 10, 2011, LP -1 is appropriately located on the
eel west bank of the La Plata River, but should be moved further cast west and as close
as possible to the property boundaries for Taylor and Linden, but remain within the
approved boundary of affected lands.. .
The Division intended to recommend LP -1 should be moved further WEST of the position
shown on Figure G -1, to a location immediately up gradient of the domestic wells located on
the properties owned by Taylor and Linden.
This clarification on the location of LP -1 is important for several reasons.
1. There are pre -law mill tailings deposited on the west bank floodplain immediately
downstream of the bridge. These pre -law tailings may leach metals and otherwise
impact the quality of ground water in the immediate area.
2. There are several domestic wells located on the west bank floodplain, downstream of
the bridge and proximal to the pre -law mill tailings.
3. There exist a potential for historic impact to the quality of ground water at the domestic
wells from leachate from the pre -law mill tailings.
4. The New Access Road passes through the west bank floodplain. Construction activities
proposed by the Operator have potential to disturb the pre -law tailings and possibly
result in adverse impact to the quality of ground water at the domestic wells.
5. Characterization of the ambient hydrologic conditions for ground water at the west
bank floodplain, downstream of the bridge and proximal to the pre -law mill tailings and
domestic wells, is required.
Office of
Denver • Grand Junction • Durango Active and Inactive Mines
