CMA Page 2 of 3
December 8, 2011
natural features so the sites blend in with the surrounding natural areas. The personal effort of each of these
individuals is noteworthy.
Oxbow Mining, LLC
P.O. Box 535
Somerset, CO 81434
Contact: Jim Kiger
970 - 929 -5806
Since the 2001 opening of the Elk Creek Mine, Oxbow Mining, LLC. has conducted extensive drilling programs
on Oxbow's parent coal lease and adjacent unleased Federal coal areas. In total, since the opening of the Elk
Creek Mine, Oxbow has reclaimed over 90 drill pads and approximately 17.3 miles of light use access roads.
Contemporaneous reclamation is required by CDRMS and BLM on the boreholes and associated roads and
Oxbow has done an excellent job of achieving this. Situated in the rugged and steep terrain of the West Elk
Mountains, road fill slopes were pulled back, the surface was left in a rough condition with rocks and slash
scattered about, followed by revegetation. All sites have been successfully reclaimed and Oxbow has obtained
final bond release for three BLM Reclamation Bonds and seven Colorado Exploration Bonds.
Ark Land Company
P.O. Box 591
Somerset, CO 81434
Contact: Wendell Koontz
970 - 929 -5015 x 246
Located in the Grand Valley Book Cliffs, the Ark Land exploration area is on BLM lands in extremely rugged and
heavily vegetated areas. Fifteen sites were drilled and reclaimed in 2007 and 2008. In this difficult terrain, Ark
Land constructed approximately 2.5 miles of new road, reconditioned approximately 11 miles of road and re-
established approximately 10.5 miles of existing access roads. During reclamation, roads were regraded to
blend in with the approximate original contour, seeded and mulched. Native boulders, brush and shrubs
moved during construction were brought back in the road alignment to aid in reclamation. The reclaimed road
access from existing BLM roadways were roughened with a pock and gouge method and blocked with native
boulder to deter ATV access as requested by the BLM. All drill sites and reclaimed roads are now well
vegetated with native species.
Blue Mountain Energy, Inc.
3607 CR 65
Rangely, Colorado 81648
Contact: Scott Wandstedt
(970) 675 -4322
Three Notice of Intent applications were evaluated in 2011. In total there were 48 drill hole locations with
associated roads. All roads and drill sites were located in open sage and grassland /pinyon - juniper areas on
lands owned by the Bureau of Land Management. Exploration drilling took place from 1999 through 2005.
Roads and drill sites were reclaimed shortly after drilling was completed. The reclaimed roads and drill sites
blend in well with the surrounding areas and vegetation is well established. Despite the persistence of
cheatgrass in the surrounding areas, it was not a problem on the reclaimed sites.
