<br />New. Elk Coal Company, LLC, 122 West First St.,
<br />Trinidad, CO 81082 the operator of the New Elk
<br />Mine., Permit numbenC- 1981 -012, is filing for a technical
<br />revision (TR -60) to the mining permit with the State of
<br />• Colorado, Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety. For
<br />filing purposes,.this application wasdeemed.complete by
<br />the Division on October 14, 2011.
<br />The New Elk Mine Is located approximately 7 miles west
<br />of Weston Colorado on State Hwy. 12. Thejansen Yard is
<br />located immediately south of the town ofJansen. The
<br />mine permit boundary is located within sections 13,14, 21,
<br />22, 23, 24; 25, 26 :27, 28, 34, 35 and 38, T33S, R68W
<br />and sections I and 2, T34S, R88W. The Jansen Yard Is
<br />located within sections' 22 and 23, T33S, R64W. The
<br />combined permit boundary contains 4198.9 acres more or
<br />Tess. These can be located on the USGS 7.5
<br />minute•Vigil, Stonewall, Tercio and Trinidad quadrangle
<br />maps. Portions of the proposed underground mine and
<br />surface support of the underground mine Ile within the
<br />boundary of the Bosque del Oso State Wildlife Area. A
<br />total of 209.1 acres of surface disturbance from mining
<br />related activity is covered by a•reclamatlonbond In the
<br />amount'of-$3;824,698.
<br />This technical revision will provide for the expansion of
<br />the development waste disposal area. Atopsoli'stockpiie'
<br />located immediateiywsst of the disposal area will be
<br />relocated. The disposal area will be expanded to the west
<br />increasing the capacity of the disposal area about
<br />20,000 bank cubic yards.
<br />A copy of the :proposed revision is available for public
<br />inspection at the Las Animas County•courthouse. Office
<br />of the County. Recorder, and at the Offices of the Division
<br />of Reclamation, Mining and Safety, 1313 Sherman St.,
<br />Room 215, Denver, CO, 80203, (303) 888 -3567. Written
<br />comments regarding this application may be submitted to
<br />and additional information may be obtained from the
<br />Division of Reclamation Mining and Safety at the. above
<br />address. Written comments must be received by.the '
<br />Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety within 10 days
<br />after the date of this publication in order to be considered.
