WW1
Environmental Scientists and Engineers, LLC
rehabilitated which would include recontouring, topsoiling, and revegetating with native
species. Once reclamation is complete, wildlife would likely return to the area. The
proposed action would not preclude this standard from being met in the long term.
4.5.2 Special Status, Threatened and Endangered Species (animal)
Standard
The proposed lease area provides habitat for the bald eagle, a species listed as threatened
under the Endangered Species Act. The proposed lease area also provides habitat for
Greater sage - grouse and Columbian sharp -tail grouse. Both are BLM sensitive species
and Colorado species of special concern. This standard would not be met while the coal
mine is active. After mining ceases, the lease area would be fully rehabilitated which
would include re- contouring, topsoiling, and re- vegetating with native species. Both
grouses would be expected to inhabit the area once rehabilitation is completed. The
proposed action would not preclude this standard from being met in the long term.
4.5.3 Plant and Animal Community (plant) Standard
Several different plant communities occur on the proposed lease area that provide
livestock grazing and wildlife habitat. After mining ceases, the lease area would be fully
rehabilitated which would include recontouring, topsoiling, and revegetating with native
species. The post- mining land use is rangeland which includes wildlife habitat. The
proposed action would not preclude this standard from being met.
4.5.4 Special Status, Threatened and Endangered Species (plant) Standard
There are no BLM sensitive species or state and federal listed threatened or endangered
plant species within or in the vicinity of the proposed action. This standard would not
apply.
4.5.5 Riparian System Standard
Riparian systems within the proposed lease area are minimal. This standard would not
apply.
4.5.6 Water Quality Standard
The water standard would not be compromised on the proposed lease area. After mining
ceases, the lease area would be fully rehabilitated which would include re- contouring,
topsoiling, and re- vegetating with native species. The proposed action would not preclude
this standard from being met.
4.5.7 Upland Soils Standard
This standard would be met. After mining ceases, the lease area would be fully
rehabilitated which would include re- contouring, topsoiling, and re- vegetating with
native species. The proposed action would not preclude this standard from being met.
P. PROJEC FS'Cok. 0I SS EA Final Collom I 00 LA.:
56
