This was a normal monitoring inspection of the Bent County Pit #1, DRMS file no. M- 1983 -178, operated by
Bent County. This site is located approximately 3 miles northeast of Las Animas, Colorado in Bent County. I,
Stephanie Reigh of the Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety conducted the inspection. Mr.
Robert Darnell of Bent County accompanied me on the inspection.
The entire permit boundary area was marked with boundary markers in the corners and the mining
disturbance was within these boundaries. The site is a 26 acre 112 c Sand and Gravel operation. The site was
not active at the time of inspection. It was hard to walk the entire permit area due to a barbed wire fence
installed by the landowner through the middle of the permit area. The landowner also removed two boundary
markers, most likely during the barbed wire fence installation. There was also some disturbance noted outside
the permit area, namely a trash pit with a topsoil stock pile adjacent to it. Mr. Darnell stated that the
disturbance outside the permit area was caused by the landowner and that it was not associated with Bent
County's permitted operation.
No noxious weed infestation was observed, although the site does need to be seeded with approved seed mix
in reclamation plan of the permit.
No problems were observed during the inspection.
OBSERVATIONS
PERMIT #: M- 1983 -178
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: SJR
INSPECTION DATE: November 21, 2011
