Box 460 <br />Paonia, CO 81428 <br />Re: West Elk Mine (Permit No. C- 1980 -007) <br />Revision: SL -4 <br />SL -4 Seeks Phase II Release of 67.6 Acres <br />Dear Sir or Madam: <br />The Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety has received a revision for the West Elk Mine. The <br />revision was called complete on November 25, 2011. <br />The Mountain Coal Company, LLC (MCC) has submitted a Partial Phase II Bond Release for the West <br />Elk Mine. The Bond Release application is for lands reclaimed between 1996 and 2007, including vent <br />shafts locations, drill holes, drill pads and roads. The specific sites are listed in the Partial Phase II Bond <br />Release application SL -04. MCC is requesting a Partial Phase II Release for 67.6 acres. The amount <br />MCC is requesting for release for the Phase II areas for topsoil replacement and reestablishment of <br />vegetation will be determined following the application evaluation and site inspection. The Division will <br />review the Bond Release application and the applicable areas to determine if the Phase II Bond Release <br />criteria have been met. Based on the Divisions review, the Bond Release amount will be calculated and <br />the Bond Release acreages may be adjusted. <br />This revision is available for review at the Gunnison County Planning Department, 201 E.
